E-Waste High Tech Trash
Students, I was very impressed with your reflection posts about E-Waste. The High Tech Trash article we read at http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2008/01/high-tech-trash/carroll-text seemed to really light a passion in some of you. For others, the electronic waste topic seems to just be someone else's problem. I've enjoyed seeing in the comments how the two varying opinions respectfully discussed their point of view. Very well done!
Interesting personal note... After we read this article, I received a watch as a birthday gift. It's a stainless steel beautiful dress watch. On the box in really small letters it says "This watch contains mercury. Please dispose of properly.". However, the average person doesn't know what "dispose of properly" is. I hope this article has inspired some of you that are more passionate about this topic to seek ways to educate others about recycling and disposing of their e-waste responsibly.

The Man
Our next exploration of the web is to read a chapter from Tim Berners-Lee, he is the man who created the www! The first two chapters from his book, Weaving the Web are on our wiki site. For this assignment, I'd like you to read at least the first chapter. As you are reading, identify 3 important vocabulary terms (and define them), 3 main ideas, and develop 3 questions (you should type all these up in MS Word and get it ready to turn in).
After you read the chapter, write a 100 word reflection about the reading and post to your blog for Assignment 2. You should complete the reading and post your reflection by Friday 22 Jan. Your MS Word document is also due Friday January 22.
For those of you who are extra curious and have time, read the 2nd chapter as well. For those of you who are really ambitious, I have also posted the last chapter from the book.

Introduction
Welcome to my blog for our Spring Blogging Project! I'm excited for us to use this tool to learn more about technology and share what we learn with each other. Ms Geurtz and I have so many talented students and I look forward to the collaboration to come.
To let you know a bit about me, this is my third year teaching at Connally. I teach Web Design, Accounting, Business Management, and Banking & Finance. Before becoming a teacher, I was a Financial Counselor and Branch Manager for a non-profit credit counseling agency. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Family Financial Planning from Texas Tech University. Go Red Raiders! :) I love teaching and sharing my knowledge and experience with others.
Teaching keeps me pretty busy so I don't get much spare time, but when I do I like to spend time with family and friends, sew and develop my side business, listen to music, watch movies, and hang out with my boyfriend. I have two nieces who live in Missouri. They are expecting a little brother April 22 so I'll have a nephew soon.
I'm looking forward to this semester. If you ever find that you need extra computer time or extra help, I'm usually here after school every Tuesday and Thursday.
Happy Blogging! :D
